Grab the captain's hat and head to central Sweden for a 37-mile ride on the country's historic Inlandsbana, or Inland Railway. Rent an old pedal-powered railway inspection trolley in Vansbro, and ride it 37-miles to the north on a stretch of unused rail. The track—an 800-mile line built at the turn of the last century in an effort to open up the Swedish interior—will take you past quiet lakes, through pine forests riddled with elk, deer, black grouse, and capercaillie. Trolleys are available for day trips as well as overnight journeys, for which you'll want to bring your own food and camping equipment.
