Top Ten Chile Classic Adventures

Kayak Chiloe Island

Greener than Washington and Oregon, darker than the Black Forest, Chiloe is a rain-drenched island whose wild west coast woodlands are traversed by trails that lead to secluded beaches with rolling dunes. You'll come for the penguins, of which there are tons. If you're looking for a more active adventure, head to the densely populated east coast, where sheltered inlets make for ideal sea kayaking. These inlets link scattered islands, whose villages are distinguished by vernacular architecture of shingled houses and churches. Penguins breed in summer, the best time to visit; though it can rain at any time of year, the days are long enough to hope for some sun. Chiloe is also home to some of Chile's best and most varied seafood.
