Top Ten United Kingdom Classic AdventuresSurvey Whales
If kayaking is too hairy-chested for you, take part in a study of whale and other marine life from a comfortable 40-foot trawler yacht off the Isle of Mull. These waters are becoming famous throughout Europe for their dense concentrations of minke whales, harbour porpoise, killer whales (orcas), and common Risso's dolphin, with occasional visits from the larger whales. There are also basking sharks, whose fearsome-looking mouths belie their harmlessness to man—they eat nothing but plankton and krill. You'll record information about all of the creatures you see. The data is then supplied to university research groups as well as the International Whaling Commission. Part of the money you spend also goes to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust.
