ZAMBIA

South Luangwa National Park
The Luangwa Valley—part of the 6,000-mile-long Great Rift Valley—is known as the Valley of the Elephants. Along with its impressive pachyderm herds, this wild—and little-known—3,500-square-mile reserve also boasts significant populations of hippos and crocodiles. The Luangwa River, which runs through the center of this outstanding park, has numerous lagoons and mudholes. At any time of the year, you're sure to see a variety of animals gathered at these watering holes.

ZIMBABWE

Victoria Falls
Twice as high as Niagara Falls, and over a mile wide, Victoria Falls is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Locally known as Musi-O-Tunya—"the smoke that thunders"—the falls were discovered in 1955 by explorer David Livingston and christened after Queen Victoria. You can approach the falls Zambia or Zimbabwe. Many Botswana safaris include a trip to the falls as an option. While you're in the area, a flight-seeing excursion over the falls is highly recommended. If you're looking for something more physically challenging, poopular activities include rafting the Class V Zambezi River or bungee jumping from Victoria Falls Bridge.
