One thousand islands: The name alone should whet the appetite of boat aficionados. In fact, there is an even greater number of little patches of land dotting the St. Lawrence River—1,864 to be exact. With so many places to escape the noise of civilization, the islands make the perfect place to leave your motorized craft behind and bring a canoe or sea kayak. Although the St. Lawrence isn't exactly a secret, and summertime crowds get quite large,this picturesque playground is dotted with islands of all sizes, creating enough nooks and crannies for you to get away from the paddlers.
You can get to the following three state parks with campgrounds only via sea: Cedar Island, Mary Island, and Canoe and Picnic Point on Grindstone Island. It's a paddler's paradise for both day-trippers as well as those who want to spend some time on the open water, in winding channels, and around back bays.
