Nova Scotians: A Lost Art?
Rare Right Whale sighting in the Bay of Fundy
Rare Right Whale sighting in the Bay of Fundy

If you have two weeks or more, start in Boston and follow the history-rich roads north through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Then catch the ferry or continue on north through New Brunswick. Return from Nova Scotia via Prince Edward Island, home of Anne of Green Gables. That's a truly memorable trip, especially in the fall when foliage is blazing with color.

Nova Scotians have a lifestyle and sense of community fast disappearing in the States. It's a place to smell the salt air, to spend a day sailing with a hard-handed lobster fisherman, a place to dance with the Scots and eat with the Acadians. Imagine what it might be like to live in such a place.

By the way, remember my clue that"loonies" are so common you can touch one every day? Well, in Nova Scotia, $1 coins, because of the small loon engraved on their faces, are known as . . . "loonies."
