Norway's remote Smola Island |
Looking for the next trophy fish? Head to the remote island of Smola, off Norway's Atlantic coast. The island offers both spectacular scenery and an excellent strip of sea guaranteed to serve up a healthy selection of cod, baby shark, salmon, and sea trout. Stay at Veidholmen on the northeastern tip of the island, near the Hauggjelga Fyr lighthouse, where you'll find one of the area's best views of the surrounding stormy waters.
Boats and guides—who will often help you prepare what you catch—are available for hire at nearby cottages. Car ferries and passenger boats take visitors to Smola from the mainland. Check with officials for the appropriate licenses before you leave.
