Top Ten New York Adventures

By Gary Fallesen
Grape lake: Bike the wine country of the Finger Lakes.

Ride along the elevated eastern shore of Seneca Lake, and you'll find deep sea blue water and emerald green hillsides. This is wine country, replete with intoxicating aromas of grapes. If seeing and smelling isn't enough, take a break to taste the vino on one of the many winery tours. There are plenty of options—the Seneca Lake Wine Trail alone offers three dozen wineries; there are 16 on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail; nine on the Keuka Lake Wine Trail, and even more wineries on Canandaigua and Hemlock Lakes. Circumnavigating the various Finger Lakes can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on how often you stop to enjoy the vineyards.
