Dripping Springs Guest Ranch
Dripping Springs Guest Ranch is where you come to refresh a weary spirit. Just an hour south of Albuquerque in the heart of New Mexico, this adult-oriented 7,000-acre ranch is named for the natural dripping springs that have rejuvenated settlers, cattle, and wildlife for centuries. That hasn't changed. Today guests can take in guided horseback adventures, a cattle drive, hot-air ballooning, rock climbing, a rodeobut don't forget the hot tubs, sauna, and the afternoon appointment with the resident masseuse. Accommodations are Southwestern in decor and first-class in quality.
Hartley Guest Ranch
Some like their dude-ranch adventures served with a generous portion of authenticity. That's what you'll find in New Mexico's northeastern corner, near the scenic town of Roy: The Hartley Guest Ranch is a working cattle and guest operation owned and run by folks whose ancestors homesteaded the state over a century ago. There are plenty of wide-open spaces to explore, with more than 200 miles of trails winding through 25,000 acres of spectacular scenery. Choose from a great stock of thoroughbreds and quarter horses, then hit the dusty trail. For a change of course, try a little whitewater rafting on the legendary Rio Grande, or take a day trip to historic Santa Fe and Taos. Meals are home-cooked and delicious, and the rooms comfortable and cozy.
Maynard Guest Ranch
Got a hankering for the romance of the Old West? The Maynard Guest Ranch is the place to hitch your pony. Step back in time at this cozy outpost surrounded by the spectacular Gila and Apache National Forests near the scenic town of Luna on the Arizona border. Saddle up and roam the mountains and valleys where some of the Old West's legendary outlaws stirred up havoc. The rock hoodoos and catacombs of Apache country make for a perfect extended detour. Later, shoot a round of cowboy golf (two clubs, one ball, and lots of rough), take a nature hike or a hayride, toss horseshoes, or throw a fly line in the local trout stream. The little buckaroos will love Kids Corral, the Indian teepee, hay maze, and petting zoo.
