Track Gorillas in Bwindi

If you only do one thing in Uganda, it has to be visiting Bwindi National Park in southwestern Uganda. The reason? It's home to half the world's population of mountain gorillas, and visitors can track them and get amazingly close. Why should David Attenborough have all the fun? Each day a group of six visitors heads off with experienced local guides and trackers into this primeval rain forest. Within minutes or hours—depending on your luck—of tracking through the dense undergrowth, you'll be in the company of one of the habituated gorilla groups, which usually comprises adult females, young males and females, and one huge silverback, the dominant male. Bookings should be made in Kampala before heading for Bwindi, as spots are limited.
