Archaeology, by Horseback

Here's an odd combination: first-rate horseback riding and world-class pottery. Find it in the town of Juan Mata Ortiz in the state of Chihuahua. The horseback riding, which costs $5 per hour or $12 for three hours, will saddle you up and send you off into the desert. You can also take side trips to the nearby Swallow Cave (Cueva de la Golondrina) and Cave of the Pot (Cueva de la Olla). Findings at these cool archaeological sites have inspired local potters to use techniques and decorative styles similar to those used by the Paquimi culture thousands of years ago. The best place to stay in town? The Posada de las Ollas.
