Florida Fishing Regions

Lafayette County

Koon Lake
(110 acres) A fish management area located five miles east of Mayo on U.S. 27. Follow the signs. Koon Lake has a limited bass harvest with most of the fish in the yearling size class. The lake is heavily infested with underwater vegetation; therefore, topwater lures are the most productive.

Bluegill fishing is fair but due to the vegetation, fishing is difficult. Live crickets are the best bait. Peak season for both bass and bluegill is spring (March through May).

Suwannee River
Numerous access points.
