If you're in north India during winter, hit the slopes! St. Moritz it ain't, but then again neither are the prices, and the slopes at Solang Nullah in Himachal Pradesh state offer a great diversion. For those bent on serious adventure, a number of agencies can organize cross-country ski-touring/trekking trips through this spectacular region, and it's even possible to get in among the mighty Himalayan glaciers. Instruction and equipment rental is available for those who require it, at a fraction of what you'd pay anywhere else. Manali is the base for most ski operations in this region.
