Biking - Down East Maine

Explore Mount Desert Island, the main locale for Acadia and also home to Bar Harbor, from two wheels.

Try the 20-mile Park Loop Road for great views, especially if you stick it out for another seven miles to the top of Cadillac Mountain. It's a road with cars, but the scenery's worth it, and if you hit it in the off-season, you won't be eating too much exhaust.

The Carriage Road Ride in Acadia is car-free; these dirt roads are a unique feature of the park and make for very pleasant jaunts.

Just north of Bangor, Caribou Bog offers up some fun singletrack in forested and boggy surroundings. Very convenient for those staying in the city and looking for a quick escape.

Go for a cruise on the Edmunds Township Trail in Moosehorn National Wildlife Preserve, right there next to Canada. This nine-mile loop goes through countryside and along the shore at Whiting Bay.
