Ride Horses in the Jura
By Mark Honan
Saigneligier
No long faces: Ride in the Jura (Swiss Tourism)

Fancy a spell in the saddle, with the thud of hooves and the occasional whinny resounding in your ears? The best place to go horse riding in Switzerland is off the normal tourist trail, in the French-speaking region of Jura canton. The horses here are renowned for their calm and gentle disposition. Go riding through a landscape of gentle pasture and woodland, in the lower reaches of the Jura mountain range. The headquarters of equestrian activity is Saigneligier, a pleasant town that annually hosts the national horse show, Marchi-Concours, in mid-August.
