Blade Through History

Savannah
Roll back into Georgia's early history (GDITTPL)

Skip the tour. Avoid the crowds. The best way to explore historic Savannah is on wheels. Grab your rollerblades, pick up a map from the visitor center, and glide over to the river to begin your trip. This district near the river is the original town plan—based on"squares"—designed by General James E. Oglethorpe in 1733. Head to infamous haunted Owens-Thomas House built in 1818 and the Green House of Gothic style built in 1853. Feel the humidity slip away as you pass a Savannah's collection of Georgian, Greek, Gothic, and even Victorian residences. If you liked Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, check out Jim's relocated home, the Hampton Lillibridge House, representing New England style and one of Savannah's official exorcisms.
