Hudson River Valley

Montgomery Place

Montgomery Place encourages picnicking and permits it anywhere on the estate. A National Historic Landmark, the property has been a horticultural showplace since the 1930s, and visitors can stroll through gardens and along nature trails. There are extensive pick-your-own orchards on Montgomery Place's 434-acres, and magnificent views of the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. The estate features a meticulously restored mansion, a greenhouse, a museum and garden shop.

Janet Livingston Montgomery, widow of Revolutionary War hero General Richard Montgomery established Montgomery Place. She built the house in 1804-05 in the Federal style, and established a prosperous commercial nursery.

The estate is open every day except Tuesdays from April through October and open weekends in November and December. Montgomery Place offers an extensive program of special events.
