Climate

Greenland is the land of the midnight sun. The best time to visit Greenland is July to September. But even in summer, temperatures rarely exceed 60°F. The inland ice pack modulates temperature, and generally, the further inland you travel the more even the temperature becomes. The weather along the coast is much more variable, with greater precipation and variance in temperature.

Because Greenland is so large and topographically complex, climate varies greatly from region to region, and even fjord to fjord. Radio weather forecasts are broadcast in Danish and Greenlandic, which adds a further complexity to planning backcountry excursions. Consult local local residents about your travel plans.

Transportation

Greenland can be reached by air from Copenhagen in Denmark, Iceland, and Ottowa in Canada. Kangerlussuaq Airport is the point of entry for international flights.

Similarly to Alaska, inland travel is by ship along the coast or helicopters and conventional aircraft. Major towns (i.e. population greater than 2,000) generally have landing strips.
