Ski Megéve, a Gentle Mont Blanc
By Patricia Ochs
Megéve
Coming down is easy: All levels of skiers can enjoy Megéve (French Tourist Office)

No question: Mont Blanc and Chamonix, both great mountains, make for a high-mountain ski challenge. But to take things a bit easier, try Megéve. This traditional Savoy village is surrounded by more than 80 hay-making and cattle farms (during the winter, farmers bring their horses into the town for sleigh rides). You'll see Mont Blanc off in the distance, but you'll have plenty of great skiing underfoot, with five large and easily accessible peaks nearby. The ski slopes are at a low altitude and therefore a tad unpredictable, snow-wise, but they're great for beginner and intermediate skiers. Megéve is loaded with Parisians during school breaks, so hotels and chalets should be booked in advance.
