Hunt for Salmon on the Namsen
By Bertil Lintner
Namsen
Find your fish on the quiet Namsen

The River Namsen, northeast of Trondheim, is regarded as one of the most productive salmon rivers in Norway. Head to the Seem beat—just two miles downriver from the confluence of the Namsen and Sandxla rivers—one of the places in the area to catch our pink friends. A number of pools and streams provide excellent chances for both experienced and the novice anglers. Stick to standard fishing methods like flyfishing, or try your hand at harling, a Scandinavian variation where several lures are dragged behind a small boat. Salmon start their run up the river in early June, but the window of opportunity stretches through the summer season, when salmon hitting the 44-pound mark are far from uncommon.
