One of the many things that add an extra flourish to Chicago is its very long green thumb. The gardens of Chicagoland don't disappoint those in need of a stroll down rows of exotic trees, sculpted bushes, or vibrant flowers.
Chicago Botanical Gardens
No better place to stop and smell the roses. If you follow the North Branch Trail to its northern terminus, on up past the Skokie Lagoons, you'll runright into the Chicago Botanical Gardens. A Rose Garden, a Japanese Garden, aPrairie Garden, and a Waterfall Garden are just a few of the 20 different gardens you can explore here. Though admission is free, tram tours are available for $5.00.
Lincoln Park Conservatory
The smell of a greenhouse is unmistakable, sometimes even therapeutic. For those who have a special love for plant life, the Lincoln Park Conservatory is not to be missed. Check out the Palm House, the Fernery, and the Cactus and Succulent House.
Osaka Garden
An authentic Japanese garden, complete with moon bridge, Shinto gate, and Japanese horticulture, was a gift from Japan to the World Columbian Exposition of 1893. It now stands at the sight of this famous fair of the past behind what is now the Museum of Science and Industry. A South Side treat well worth exploring.
