Canoe Forgotten Sweden

Dalsland
Wet and wild in Dalsland

Call is the land of lakes. Long overlooked as a stop on the way to the popular port city of Gvteborg, the province of Dalsland is a beautiful region characterized by long lakes connected by placid streams that are perfect for warm-weather canoeing. Start paddling in Bengtsfors, or Ed, on the lakes of Lelang or Stora Le towards the Norwegian border. Watch for beaver damns as you explore the area's streams and rivers, and overnight on the small islands that dot the lakes—in Sweden you are allowed to camp anywhere in the wild as long as you clean up after yourself.

Canoe rental shops are plentiful, but supplies are not. A few small villages and farms line shorelines, but other signs of human population are few, so pack-in all food and camping equipment.
