Florida Fishing Regions

Manatee County

Lake Manatee

This 2,500-acre reservoir was created by damming the east fork of the Manatee River. This Fish Management Area, in a state park off SR 64 near Bradenton, provides boat, pier, and bank access and offers good fishing for all species. Sunshine bass fishing is good, with fish congregating near feeder streams, flooded creek beds, and schooling on shad in open water. Live bait is best. A 10 HP outboard motor restriction is imposed.

Manatee River

Downstream of the dam, this scenic river offers excellent largemouth bass, snook, bream, and catfish action. Boat access is south of Parrish at the end of Fort Hamer Road, off US Hwy. 301 near Parrish.

Evers Lake

A dam placed across the Braden River near Bradenton forms this 400-acre lake. Both the lake and upper river provide excellent angling for largemouth and sunshine bass, crappie and bream. There is limited bank fishing. Boats can be rented or launched at a private fish camp located south of SR 70.

Parrish Lake

Florida Power and Light owns this 6,000-acre lake that offers excellent fishing.
