Latin name: Podophyllum peltatum
Flower: A single, waxy, nodding white flower grows from the middle of the fork of the two leaves. About one inch in size, the flower has more than a dozen stamens with yellow anthers that emerge from the center of six to nine petals.
Average bloom season: April to June
Leaves and stems: Rising to a height of about a foot off the ground, the two umbrella-like toothed leaves are divided into five to seven lobes. Stems with only one leaf do not bear flowers.
Range in AT states: Georgia to Maine
Most likely AT locations: Between Neel's Gap and Unicoi Gap in Georgia; Pearis Mountain in southwest Virginia; Thunder Ridge in central Virginia.
