Latin name: Monotropa uniflora
Flower: Usually growing in small clumps, the nodding, nearly translucent flower is most often white, but can also be pale shades of pink, yellow, or even blue.
Average bloom season: June to September
Leaves and stems: The leaves are nearly unnoticeable and scalelike on a three- to ten-inch-high stem. Both the leaves and stem are the same color as the flower.
Range in AT states: Georgia to Maine
Most likely AT locations: Near Elk Pond, Rocky, and Catawba Mountains in central Virginia; close to Mount Greylock in Massachusetts; in the Gulf Hagas area in Maine.
