Latin name: Medeola virginiana
Flower: Emanating from the top whorl of leaves, the green-yellow nodding flower's sepals and petals bend backwards.
Average bloom season: May to June
Leaves and stems: The stem grows from one to three feet tall and has two whorls of leaves, one set about halfway up and the other near the top.
Range in AT states: Georgia to Maine
Most likely AT locations: Between Davenport Gap and Hot Springs, North Carolina; near The Priest in central Virginia; on the slopes of Mount Greylock in Massachusetts; Wyman and Hall Mountains in Maine.
