Lower Ochlockonee River

St. Vincent Refuge
A 12,350-acre island located about five miles offshore from Apalachicola. Accessible only by boat. Primitive freshwater fishing areas may be reached from the island's east shoreline. Fishermen will need to carry a small boat since occasional portaging is necessary. The use of gasoline motors is prohibited.

Bream and bass fishing is excellent in the spring, but ponds are open to fishing during certain months according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulations. Best bream baits are crickets and earthworms. Bass are caught using plastic worms and live shiners. More fishing information and maps are available on request from St. Vincent Wildlife Refuge, P.O. Box 447, Apalachicola, FL 32320.
