If appropriate, carry personal medical information with you. It should include: your blood type, allergies, relevant medical/surgical history, names and doses of critical medication, and health insurance information. Don't forget the name and number of a person to contact if needed. And take the time to learn basic first aid! There are many sources of training available. For example, the Red Cross offers a worthwhile first aid course and issues a first aid instruction card for travelers to carry. They also teach how to perform CPR and the Heimlich Maneuverimportant skills at home as well as abroad.
