Outdoor New Orleans
New Orleans Highlights
- The myriad of lakes, marshes, and rivers in the greater New Orleans area offer a variety of freshwater and saltwater fishing experiences.
- Lake Pontchartrain is an expansive body of water with many angling opportunities. Salt species dominate the lake, including trout and redfish.
- Fairview-Riverside State Park offers both fresh- and saltwater angling. Go for bass, bream, and perch in the Tchefuncte River then angle for trout and redfish where the Tchefuncte flows into Lake Pontchartrain.
- Bass and bream will be found in Lake Cataouatche. Cast in the morning and evening on the edge of the ample hydrilla; use beetle spins or live bait such as worms.
- Angle for redfish in Lake Borgne, which is actually an arm of the Gulf, and the waterways to which it connects. Live shrimp works on the multiple species—from sheepshead to sharks—that live in these waters.
