Outdoor Lexington

Lexington Highlights

  • Lexington, the horse capital of the world, offers a variety of equestrian experiences—from the developed endeavors to public trails in the nearby Daniel Boone National Forest.
  • Kentucky Horse Park is a must for equestrian enthusiasts who visit the area.
  • The horse park—which is all about horses and includes a museum, competitions, horse farm tours, and other events—offers horseback riding around the perimeter of its gorgeous grounds during the warm season.
  • Big Red Stables, in nearby Harrodsburg, offers guided and unguided equestrian trips.
  • East of Lexington, in the Daniel Boone National Forest, the Cave Run Lake trail system offers 40 miles of interconnected trails. White Sulphur Horse Camp, for equestrians only, makes for the ideal jumping off point.
  • Whispering Woods, near Georgetown, has horses for rent; or, bring your own horses and ride the trail system.
