Outdoor Flagstaff

Flagstaff Highlights

  • Kinnikinick Campground is located 38 miles southeast of Flagstaff near the popular trout fishing spot Kinnikinick Lake. Open mid-May through the end of September, the campground has 13 single-unit sites with tables, fire rings, and grills. A boat ramp is accessible at the lake.
  • Lakeview Campground is located 12 miles southeast of Flagstaff on Lake Mary Road. Renovated in 2002, tents and small motor homes are permitted on the 30 single-unit sites. This campground has easy forest access where you can find wildlife such as elk, mule deer, Bald Eagles, and migratory waterfowl.
  • Take a drive on the Volcanoes and Ruins Loop, which travels through the most-recently active part of the San Francisco volcano field—don’t worry though, the last eruption was around 1250 A.D. The loop also passes by some notable Sinagua ruins.
  • A 150-mile stretch of the historic Route 66 from Flagstaff to Kingman takes you through the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests as well as the southern point of the Hualapai Reservation. Roadside hotels, restaurants, and signs still suggest the flavor of earlier days.
