Waterton Lakes National Park
Waterton Lakes National Park Highlights
- Keep on the lookout for bear, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, and other creatures. Wildlife is the main attraction at Waterton Lakes National Park. Wildflowers paint the grasslands, with a backdrop of lofty mountain peaks. The quaint village of Waterton provides a base.
- Attend a theater program put on by the park or hear local guest speakers at the Falls Theatre. Something is offered most evenings from late June until Labor Day near Cameron Falls and the Townsite campground. These programs begin at 8 p.m. and last about an hour.
- Check the Parks Canada website for any special events during your visit. Bird, plant, and butterfly counts happen during spring and summer. The Waterton Wildflower Festival runs for nine days in mid-June and features guided hikes, art exhibits, and workshops on photography, watercolor painting, and drawing.
- Be sure to book accommodations well in advance if you’re planning on visiting in July and August.
- Most if not all of the park's service centers close during the winter.
