Washita National Wildlife Refuge

Directions: From Clinton, take Route 183 N 9 miles to route 33, then follow signs W 18 miles to refuge.

Primary Wildlife: Provides habitat for migrating/wintering waterfowl. Endangered species managed include the bald eagle, whooping crane, and interior least tern.

Habitat: 8,200 acres including 2,000 acres of upper reservoir and river, 3,000-plus acres of mixed grass prairie, and 1,200 of bottomland and forest along creeks.

Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation and photography, fishing, and limited hunting.

Special Note: Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service under cooperative agreement with the Bureau of reclamation. Adjacent to Foss Lake State Park. Large portions of the refuge are closed October 15 through March 15 to minimize disturbance of wintering waterfowl and bald eagles.
