Uvalde National Fish Hatchery
Directions to Office: From Uvalde, Texas, follow Highway 911 W through town approximately 2 miles. Turn S on FM 481, drive approximately 2 miles southwest. Hatchery entrance, office buildings, and visitor area are on left side of road.
Primary Function: Propagation of warm water game fishes and threatened and endangered fish species. Florida large mouth bass, channel catfish, paddlefish, striped bass, and pupfish.
Habitat: 100 acres located in the Rio Grande Plain, mesquite grassland, 48 useable ponds on the station, equal to 47 surface acres of water. Winters are mild and summers are hot.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation (birds, mammals, and reptiles), walking tour fish observation, study, and photography, and scheduled tours, picnic area, and facilities.
Special Note: Highly attractive to bird watchers due to large abundance of species diversity of birds and ducks.
