Life in Alaska happens on a different scale. The joy of trekking here is the utter absence of civilization: no trails, no signs, no RVs—just the call of the wild. Along the Charley River, in the only completely protected watershed in the United States, peregrine falcons soar above sheer alpine ridges and packs of wolves roam. Of course, the purity of the Yukon-Charley is also its challenge. To survive here, your backcountry skills must be top notch—plan on help not being close at hand if you mess up.
