MAPS: USGS Quadrangle Maps - Nabesna (C-5) 1:63,360, Nabesna 1:250,000
DISTANCE: Six miles one-way to where the creekbed narrows, and an additional 2.5 miles to the headwaters for a total of 8.5 miles.
TIME: This could be done as a long day hike or and extended multi-day hike using Trail Creek as an option for a loop route.
ACCESS: Road access via the Nabesna Road from Slana. At mile 31.2 Lost Creek crosses the road. Parking is available on the left after crossing the creek. This creek can be difficult to cross with a two-wheel-drive passenger vehicle.
ROUTE: Follow ATV trail up Lost Creek for 6 miles to where the creek narrows, fording several times. (Alternate: Stay primarily on the west bank from about mile 2-4 to avoid some crossings.) At the narrows area, either climb east hillside and make upstream traverse, or climb west hillside and travel for about 1 mile until the creekbed ascends to the same elevation.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS: On warm summer days, the creek level can be low in the early morning and rise several feet during the day. An easy morning ford may be impassable by the late afternoon. Also, the creek level can rise suddenly during and after rain storms. Bears are present in the area.
