Wenatchee National ForestMountain Biking
Echo Ridge is an excellent destination for mountain bikers who want lots of challenging pedaling and aren't necessarily interested in anything elsefor those who think an interpretative kiosk is something to whiz by and avoid. The Echo Ridge system was laid out for cross-country skiing, but come snowmelt, fat tires rule. As with most national forest units, the Leavenworth Ranger District biking trails are the same as the hiking trails. The best trail riding is reportedly in the Mission Creek/Devil's Gulch area. The Wenatchee Ranger District has several good loop rides. The North Fork 25 Mile Creek Trail is a stand-out. It's a challenge, with uphills and sharp turns. But worth every drop of sweat—great views, wildlife, and a hair-raising descent back. For road bikers, take advantage of the nearby pedal-friendly communities around Wenatchee and Lake Chelan and farther north in the Okanogan Region.
