Wallowa-Whitman National Forest

Mount Emily #3120

This ride offers outstanding views of the Grande Ronde Valley and Wallowa Mountains to the east. The ride offers two overlooks, The Indian Rock and Mount Emily. There is also a camping and picnic area adjacent to Forest Road #3120. There are adjoining trails for additional riding, a non-motorized trail, and numerous jeep trails for exploring. This ride can be made more difficult by starting in La Grande instead of driving to Mount Emily.

Access: Take I-84 west from La Grande 17 miles to Forest Road #31, the Mount Emily Road. Follow Road #31 for 18 miles to the junction of Forest Road #3120. There is no designated parking. The camping/picnic area is approximately 3-1/2 miles south on Road #3120.

Mount Fanny #6220

Forest Road #6220 climbs the west flank of the Wallowa Mountains east of Cove and traverses the ridge passing Point Prominence Lookout (6,745 ft). If accessing the ride via Cove, the ride will be a moderate descent. If accessing via Elgin, the ride will be a moderate climb. This ridgeline offers some fine riding and spectacular views of the Minam River Gorge and Eagle Cap Wilderness.

Location: 30 minutes, or 18 miles from Cove, Oregon; 45 minutes, or 34 miles from La Grande, Oregon

Access: If access is from La Grande, take State Highway 82 approximately 20 miles to Elgin. From Elgin head south on State Highway 58 to the junction of State Highway 59. Follow Highway 59 east to the junction of State Highway 62 and park here. If access is from Cove, take State Highway 65 east and north to the junction of Forest Road #6220. There is no designated parking but some may be found at Point Prominence Lookout.
