Portland Trail is part of an interconnecting system of trails in the basin below the amphitheatre rock formations surrounding the eastern side of the city of Ouray. By using portions of the Cascade Falls Trail, a loop trip may be made into the upper part of the amphitheatre basin. Portions of the trail climb steadily; however, the Portland Trail is the gentlest trail gradewise in the Ouray area. Total walking time for the loop is 4 to 5 hours.
This trail is a popular ride for persons renting horses in Ouray. Horses are not permitted within the campground.
Excellent camping, toilet, and water facilities are available at the trailhead.
