Directions: The N boundary of the refuge is located 1 mile S of Tulelake. Refuge headquarters is located 5 miles W of Tulelake and 4 miles S of the Oregon-California border. This refuge has several entrances. Write for map.

Primary Wildlife: Peak of nearly one million waterfowl use the combined areas of Tule Lake and Lower Klamath during the fall migration. Large summer populations of herons, egrets, grebes, terns, and gulls. Largest wintering concentration of bald eagles (500) in the lower 48 uses the combined area of Tule Lake and Lower Klamath as daily feeding grounds.

Habitat: 39,116 acres of open water, marshes, uplands, and croplands.

Recreation and Education: Visitor center at headquarters. Wildlife observation, study, and photography. Auto tour route. Waterfowl hunting. Pheasant hunting.

Special Note: The Bureau of Reclamation administers the leasing of croplands with the farmers removing their entire crop. The Fish and Wildlife Service plants about 2,000 acres of crops as buffer strips around the borders of the water areas to provide food and cover for wildlife and help reduce waterfowl depredations on adjacent agricultural lands.
