The Tamarac Wetland Management District is located in north-central Minnesota and includes Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard and Koochiching Counties. Currently, all of the District's easements occur in Clearwater and Cass Counties.

The District is the most ecologically diverse area of Minnesota and extends from the extreme eastern edge of the prairie pothole region on the west and south through rolling hardwoods and aspen parkland, to the extensive peatlands and boreal forest at the north and east edges of the District. Topography, wildlife and land uses are equally diverse.

Management Programs
Management activities in the Tamarac WMD are presently limited to monitoring compliance with the provisions of the easement on an annual basis. This is a relatively new program with nine easements having just been taken in 1997. Plans for enhancing easements where landowner cooperation can be obtained are being made. Additionally, technical assistance for wildlife projects will be provided for both on and off easement land to interested landowners.
