Tahoe National ForestHiking
From the heights of the Sierra Buttes to the solitude of the American River Canyon, visitors to the Tahoe National Forest will be rewarded with beautiful scenery, occasional glimpses of wildlife, and trails suited to every taste and ability. Over 500 miles of hiking trails can be found in the Forest. Among the trails is a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail that extends for a distance of 97 miles. The Pacific Crest Trail connects with the Eldorado National Forest on the south about one mile northwest of Sourdough Hill and leaves the Forest at the A-tree northwest of Gold Lake at the Plumas National Forest boundary.
