  • The Triple Crown of Midwest distance hiking is comprised of the Kekekabic, Border Route, and Superior Hiking trails. Together, they trace 310 miles, largely through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the Superior National Forest.
  • Canoe routes in the Superior National Forest outside of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area are often just as rugged as those located within the area, but they have the added bonus of requiring no overnight permits.
  • Overnight permits from the National Forest Service are required only on certain sections of the Border Route Trail and the Kekekabic inside the BWCA. All other backcountry sites are free and first-come, first-served.
  • For a more refined experience, book a lodge-to-lodge hiking trip on the Superior Trail at least two months in advance with Boundary Country Trekking.
