Long Cane Ranger District
This scenic 5.7-mile loop trail is located in the southeastern part of the Long Cane Ranger District. Visitors will enjoy mountain biking or hiking opportunities and distinctive piedmont vegetation. This white-blazed trail has five access points enabling cyclists or hikers to determine the length and duration of their visit. Many visitors begin their trip at Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area, which offers camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and boating. For those who do not wish to enter the recreation area, an alternate route has been established. Access is on FS Road 634, just south of the main trail. Horn Creek Trail travels along hardwood bottoms, across streams, and along pine ridges, offering views of a wide variety of wildlife habitat.

Nearby points of interest include the town of Edgefield, Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area, Furys Ferry Boat Ramp, Strom Thurmond Reservoir, and Hamilton Branch State Park.

Directions: From Edgefield, take SC Route 23 south for 8.2 miles. Bear left onto SC Route 230, drive 0.5 mile to Route S 19-263. Drive 1.9 miles to entrance on right, or continue on Route S 19-263 to gravel FS 634. Alternate route is less than 0.1 mile on right past main trail.

Site amenities: Two parking areas; easy access to recreation area.

Difficulty Level: Moderately easy.

Season: Year-round.

Safety: Avoid trail use during first two weeks of hunting season. Wear brightly colored clothing during entire hunting season.

Requirements: Special permit required for organized or commercial bike rides.
