Siskiyou National Forest (Lee Webb/USDA Forest Service)

A variety of wildlife lives within the National Forest. Depending upon the season, you may see hawks, owls, deer, elk, or bears. Black bears live in the area, but they only become a problem when someone leaves a messy campsite. Bears have a keen sense of smell and are attracted to food scents, especially that of meat products.

Never store food inside a tent or sleeping bag. Do not feed human food to any wild animal. Wild animals cannot digest the food we eat. Wild animals need to eat their own type of food in order to build up body fat for survival.
