Siskiyou National Forest

Oregon Caves National Monument is located in the Klamath Mountains in Cave Junction of Southwestern Oregon. Composed mostly of ocean crustal rocks (ophiolite), three miles of marble mark these caves, which were also known fossil sites for early mammals. They draw large crowds during the summer months, so be sure to check out the popular caves in the early morning or afternoon to deter waiting time. Siskiyou also offers a campground 16 miles east of Cave Junction in close proximity to the caves for those who wish to combine their camping and caving experiences.

Another nearby attraction is Redwood National Park in California. A coastal redwood can grow up to 370 feet high, taking the claim of the world's tallest tree. But besides the presence of these magnificent and awe-inspiring trees, the park also offers an abundance of wildlife and a slew of recreational activities. If you are in the area, the trek to Redwood is worth the effort.

Some other great outing ideas include the Klamath National Forest, which borders Siskiyou to the southeast and contains 200 miles of river for great rafting. Respectively to the south and east of Siskiyou, the Smith River National Recreation Area and Rogue River National Forest also offer river-based atmospheres. Here, you will find exceptional fishing.
