Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park

Buckeye Flat Campground
There's only one way to get to Buckeye Flat: down a road narrow enough to keep out cumbersome, scenery-cluttering vehicles. What's left to you is a smallish campground with a trail that follows the aptly named Paradise Creek, and a longer trail leading deep into the park. Moro Rock is a short drive away. Open April through September (weather permitting).

Potwisha Campground
Despite the prevalence of RVs and urban amenities, Potwisha is a fairly mellow place to camp. The trickle of the nearby Kaweah River has something to do with that. Still, it has the dubious distinction of being the only campground in either park to allow more than one car per site. The result: bigger, louder groups. The best reason to sleep here is if you arrived at the park too late to continue on the twisty road to Buckeye Flat. Open year-round.

South Fork Campground
People who camp here generally do so in preparation for a trip into the backcountry. It's a tiny campground with very few amenities (note: no drinking water), located at the end of an unpaved road that serves as the jumping-off point for trails that split off into Sequoia National Forest. Open May through September.
