Haleakala National Park
From sea level to 10,000-plus feet in less than 40 miles as the crow flies—but you'll be twisting and turning up the summit of a volcano. Be there before sunrise, and you'll be treated to some of the best stargazing on the planet. On Maui. Or you can take the famous Lana Road along the coast.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Roads wind through the park's natural wonders, including the 11-mile drive that circles Kilauea's summit caldera and craters, passing through rain forest and desert, and providing access to well-marked scenic stops and short walks. Highlights include Sulphur Banks, Steam Vents, Jaggar Museum, Halema'uma'u Crater, Devastation Trail, Kilauea Iki Crater, and Thurston Lava Tube.

Chain of Craters Road
This 50-mile round-trip drive intersects with Crater Rim Drive, descends 3,700 feet to the coast, and dead ends at a lava flow across the road. Points of interest include Lua Manu and Pauahi craters, Mauna Ulu Lava Shield, Kealakomo Overlook and Holei Sea Arch.
