Sawtooth National Forest

Wood River and Sawtooths are about 90 miles east of Boise where Highway 20 hits 75. Choose nine tracks in the Sawtooth National Forest or several commercial sites in the vicinity of Ketchum. Just past Twin Falls are several more trails in the Sawtooth National Forest, around the towns of Albion and Hansen.

Wood River and Sawtooths

Big Wood River - 5 miles. Three miles north of Ketchum on State Highway 75 at Lake Creek trailhead. National Recreation Trail. Beginner to advanced.

Billy's Bridge - 4.4 miles. Nineteen miles north of Retchum on Highway 75 at base of Boulder Mountains. Beginner to intermediate.

Craters of the Moon - 7 miles. About 20 miles west of Arco on Highway 20/26-93. Lava flow in Craters of the Moon National Monument. Beginner. Camping with permit.

Elkhorn Touring Center (commercial) - 6.2 miles. Elkhorn Resort at Sun Valley. Beginner to advanced. Lessons, equipment rental, tours.

Galena Lodge Touring Center (commercial) - 25 miles of trails. Twenty-four miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. Beginner to advanced. Refreshments, equipment rental. Phone: 208-726-4010.

Lawrence Creek - 4.5 miles. Seven miles north of Fairfield on Soldier Mountain Road. Beginner to intermediate. Park at Lawrence Creek corrals.

North Fork - 2.5 miles. Eight miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75 at Sawtooth National Recreation Area Headquarters. Beginner.

Owl Creek - 2.5 miles. Twenty miles north of Ketchum on the west side of State Highway 75. Intermediate. Leads to Prairie Creek trail.

Prairie Creek - 4 miles. Nineteen miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. Beginner to intermediate.

Redfish Lake - 4 miles. Four miles south of Stanley on Highway 75. Follows summer access road to Redfish Lake.

Trail Creek (commercial) - 4 miles. Beginner to intermediate. Check in at SUD Valley Nordic Ski Touring Center.

Vista - 1.2 miles. Nineteen miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. Intermediate to advanced. At base of Boulder Hountains.

Twin Falls/Burley Area

Broad Hollow - 4.2 miles. Five miles south of Albion on Highway 77, three miles up Howell Canyon Road toward Pomerelle Ski Area. Intermediate.

Conner Flat - 2.5 miles. Five miles south of Albion on Highway 77, 6.5 miles up Howell Canyon Road to Pomerelle Ski Area. Beginner to intermediate.

Pensteman - 3.5 to 8 miles. Twenty-five miles south of Hansen near Magic Mountain Ski Area. Intermediate.

Rock Creek - 1.8 to 2.6 miles. Twenty-five miles south of Hansen near Magic Mountain Ski Area. Beginner.

Walstrum Hollow - 4 miles. Twenty-five miles south of Hansen near Magic Mountain Ski Area. Intermediate.
