A few miles northeast of Sun Valley resort area stands a memorial dedicated to Ernest Hemingway. The memorial is situated along Trail Creek; take Trail Creek Road to get there. Every July 4th, the town of Hailey holds a rodeo and celebrates the Days of the Old West. Witness dramatic shoot-outs on Main Street. Just north of Shoshone, you'll find the Ice Caves, strange living glaciers in an arid lava desert. The Silent City of Rocks creates the illusion of an ancient city in the remote desert; fissured, twisted columns of rock rise 60 stories above the Snake River Plain. Drive south on Highway 77 to Almo to get to this beguiling "city."
Nearby towns include Ketchum, Stanley, Twin Falls, Fairfield, and Burley. Stanley is about 75 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho. Ketchum is about 90 miles east of Boise.
